Our partners from Russia - event agency specialising in brand activations via socially responsible projects - approached us to curate the art contest for children. Hundreds of children from 36 Russian cities were supposed to create their unique pieces of art out of recyclable materials. The project was sponsored by the largest Russian petrochemical products producer,
SIBUR.
Solution:
Chaika Events invited British artist and sculptor specialising in recycling art objects
Ptolemy Elrington to curate the project. We produced a short video where Ptolemy was telling the Russian children about the better use of planetary resources, encouraged them to re-purpose and re-use waste creatively and participate in the ecological art competition by uploading the photos of their art via a dedicated web site.
Bringing together British expertise in recycling to create art with Russian children led to fruitful collaborations in the children's groups. They made pieces of recycled art and learned to work together to design and build the art objects. The children all over Russia uploaded hundreds of photos and wrote essays about their experiences.
The filanilsts' artistic creations were displayed for general public at the historic
ZIL Culture Centre, a stunning example of the Soviet
constructivist architecture now itself repurposed as a metropolitan hub for modern culture. Chaika Events organised Ptolemy Elrington's trip to Moscow to meet the finalists. He ran masterclasses and created the unique art objects with the finalists of the competition made of plastic, cardboard, metal and paper.
